Cabbage Lodero F1 Seeds

Cabbage ‘Lodero’ F1 is a premium hybrid red cabbage producing large, uniform, deep purple-red heads with exceptional internal quality, excellent flavour and outstanding storage potential. Bred for reliable performance and strong vigour, this maincrop variety is ideal for harvesting in autumn and storing well into winter. Its attractive colour, dense texture and sweet flavour make it perfect for fresh salads, coleslaw, steaming, braising, pickling and traditional winter dishes.

One of the outstanding features of ‘Lodero’ F1 is its high resistance to clubroot, making it an excellent choice for gardens and allotments where this troublesome soil-borne disease can affect brassica crops. Combined with its strong field performance, excellent head uniformity and dependable yields, it has become a favourite with home gardeners and commercial growers alike.

Sowing & Propagation

Sow seeds from March to May in seed trays or modular trays filled with quality seed compost. Cover the seed lightly with compost and maintain a temperature of 15–20°C for reliable germination.

Once seedlings have developed several true leaves, harden them off before transplanting into their final growing position. Plant 45–60cm apart, allowing 60cm between rows to give the large heads sufficient room to develop.

Growing On

Grow in fertile, moisture-retentive soil enriched with well-rotted compost or organic matter in a sunny position. Water regularly throughout the growing season to encourage uninterrupted growth and prevent plants from becoming stressed. Apply a balanced fertiliser if required and keep the crop free from weeds.

Protect young plants from pigeons and cabbage white butterflies with suitable netting, particularly during the early stages of growth.

Harvesting

Harvest from September through November, cutting the heads once they are firm and fully developed. The dense heads retain their excellent colour and crisp texture, making them suitable for fresh salads, coleslaw, stir-fries, braising and pickling. Thanks to their excellent keeping qualities, they can also be stored for several months under cool, frost-free conditions.
