Sprouting Broccoli Burgundy F1 Seeds
Bred to produce Sprouting Broccoli in the Summer and Autumn.Expect high yields, consistency and uniformity through the summer season.
Burgundy F1 is an outstanding modern hybrid that brings the versatility of sprouting broccoli to the summer and autumn vegetable garden. Unlike traditional overwintering purple sprouting broccoli, this vigorous variety matures quickly and produces large, tender purple florets approximately 70 days after planting. Strong, healthy plants develop a substantial central head before producing a succession of delicious side shoots, extending the harvesting period for many weeks.
The attractive deep purple florets are renowned for their sweet, mild flavour and tender stems, making them ideal for steaming, stir-frying, roasting or adding to fresh salads. The plants crop heavily throughout the season and can also be grown under protection in tunnels or polytunnels to extend harvesting into late autumn and early winter. With excellent vigour, dependable performance and generous yields, Burgundy F1 is an excellent choice for gardeners looking to enjoy fresh sprouting broccoli beyond the traditional spring season.
Sowing & Propagation
Sow seeds from February onwards take a look at our Propagation Equipment
Sow in modules or pots under glass for early crops, or sow outdoors from April to August into a prepared seedbed. Cover seeds lightly with compost and maintain even moisture during germination.
When seedlings have developed several true leaves, transplant them into fertile, well-prepared soil in a sunny position. Space plants approximately 40cm apart in all directions to allow good air circulation and strong development.
Growing On
Grow in fertile, moisture-retentive soil enriched with well-rotted compost or organic matter. Apply a balanced general fertiliser before planting and water regularly during dry weather to maintain continuous growth.
Protect plants from cabbage white butterflies and caterpillars using insect-proof netting where necessary. Keep the area weed-free and harvest regularly to encourage the production of fresh side shoots throughout the growing season.
Harvesting
Harvest approximately 70 days after planting, cutting the central head while the flower buds remain tightly closed. Continue harvesting the numerous purple side shoots as they develop to extend the cropping season. The tender florets are excellent steamed, roasted, stir-fried or enjoyed raw in salads. Regular harvesting encourages continued production over several weeks.
